Stress and the Immune System

So much fear being projected into our society right now from our media about a virus. So many different studies, different Dr.’s coming out stating how they’ve successfully treated their patients only to be ridiculed and shamed. So much rage. So much FEAR! So much anger towards our fellow humans. Somehow this has to shift. Or where do we go from here?

🤷🏻‍♀️ So...I thought I’d share how we feel about “any” sickness in our office.

First and foremost we need to accept responsibility for our own health and stop waiting for someone or thing to come in and save the day. Stop being VICTIMS and start being proactive! And this starts with building a healthy immune system. But to do this we need to understand what breaks down our "internal defense system." For that’s what the immune system is essentially. Just an internal defense system that assists our bodies in fighting off foreign invaders. Stressors like bacteria, viruses, parasites. You get the picture.

1. Stress: So how does this defense system begin to break down? Ironically, the #1 threat to our immune system is chronic stress. Yes. The very thing that is running rampant in our society today is the very thing that it’s going to lower our immune system. 😳

2. Proper Sleep- And anyone who has been under chronic stress in their life knows, that when you’re under chronic stress your sleep patterns change. You’re not getting proper rest then your body cannot rejuvenate itself each night.

3. Diet - A diet high in processed food, soda and “fake foods” is going to lower your immune system. Think of food as energy and medicine. It needs to be alive for it to nourish your body. Processed food is dead food. It’s really as simple as that. And most is loaded with chemicals-but that’s another post! 😊

4. Specific nutrients to fight off pathogens:

A. Vitamin C and Citrus fruits- Yes lots of citrus fruits. Vitamin C is very important for any pathogen. If you’re not getting enough citrus fruits take a good quality vitamin C supplement.. (Cataplex C by Standard Process- stop in and pick one up!)

B. Zinc- zinc has been mentioned a lot recently- foods that have zinc include oysters, Red meat, chicken, nuts, beans. To name a few.. And a good quality zinc supplement (Also by Standard Process)

C. Echinacea Premium- This is an herbal product that helps balance your Immune System.. We recommend this as a preventive during cold and flu season and especially now...and you guest it-Standard Process/MediHerb.

D. Vitamin D- if you’re not getting out in the sun every day this summer you’re missing out! Vitamin D is very important for lots of functions in the body most of which is the Immune System. This is a supplement you will need in the winter! When the sun is further away from the earth and we have many cloudy days. (Yep! Got that too!)

But the most important thing you can do for yourself right now is destress! I see some of you come in the office, I see the fear in your eyes, I feel your stress. And I want you to know, you’re not alone. Start with the simple things to destress, like take some time for yourself. Shut off the TV. (it's all bad news anyway) Go for a long walk. Don’t believe everything you hear. Do your own research. Stop relying on the opinions of others, what do you "feel" is right? What "feels" right for you and your family. Don't let others shame you into believing as they do. There’s lots of scientific research out there and lots of opinions. Only you know what’s right for you. Take a deep breath and breathe! This is just another chapter in this thing called life. And this too shall pass. 💥. It may pass like a kidney stone but it will pass! 🤭
